The SmartArt programme has given me access to advice, ideas, tools and people that I can work with to develop and move forward into growing a successful, meaningful and FUN art practice which will sustain me intellectually, practically, financially and emotionally. Thanks

I found it very useful to have the viewpoint of a gallery and feel able to target my proposals more effectively.

The quality of the tutors has been excellent and they have been supportive and inspiring. I have had lots of ideas which I am implementing in my practice.

The series of masterclasses allowed participants to interrogate artists whose careers have taken them in some unusual directions: Hayley Newman (a visual/mixed-media and performance artist who has exhibited at the Ikon Gallery in Birmingham and Tate Modern in London), Carole Waller (a painter, textile and glass artist) and Barbara Walker (a painter and social commentator). Participating rtists benefited from individual mentoring, which helped them to hone strategies for development, whilst remaining adaptable enough to take advantage of opportunities that arise.

On behalf of the artists A+M produced a brochure to celebrate their achievements over the 18 months of the programme. Download a PDF version here (996kb) .

SmartArt is supported by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation and Arts Council England.
