... the Fracture programme has overall met my expectations and I have been impressed and encouraged by the support and help given by everyone

Artist comments

Fracture has provided regional artists with a unique opportunity to be supported through the development of really risky dance and moving image projects. It has shown how productive partnership working can be between a University and a professional training provider

Coventry University

Fracture has given The Herbert the opportunity to be involved with the commissioning process, working with filmmakers, choreographers and sound artists with established reputations. It has given us the confidence to carry out more commissions in this medium and we plan to experiment with using different parts of our building for the resulting work.

Fracture

As part of Fracture,  7 commissions were developed  and showcased across the Midlands to critical acclaim. The commissions were the result of successful collaborative partnerships with The Herbert in Coventry; Solihull Arts Complex; Rugby Art Gallery & Museum; OHM Film & Digital Media Centre, Shrewsbury; VIVID; The Digital Planetarium; Birmingham ThinkTank and The Edge Gallery, Birmingham.

A+M supported 19 participating artists with a range of development opportunities including:

  • A retreat to explore each other’s work and ideas and foster cross-art-form collaborative partnerships
  • Practice-based one-day workshops to explore how to use the technical equipment available in gallery and exhibition spaces
  • Experimentation with lighting and sound
  • A creative laboratory at FACT in Liverpool
  • Mentored time on fundraising and technical project installation issues

FRACTURE is a partnership project managed by Coventry University in conjunction with Arts+Media and supported by Arts Council England West Midlands.
