Action Learning in the Arts ALITA

Completed: Ongoing

ALITA is designed to strengthen  organisational capacity and  embed a practical commitment to the most important resources arts organisations' possess: their people and their programmes.

ALITA addresses key issues identified by the Arts Council, McMaster Report and DCMS as critical to the development of leadership skills and key to the sustainability of the sector.

ALITA offers a collaborative action learning programme whose success has been tested and assured since 2000.  ALITA supports existing leaders by addressing the central issues of senior management and governance - from developing and sustaining the artistic vision to managing change and succession planning - and develops tomorrow’s cultural leaders by working with arts managers at all levels of experience.  ALITA provides career development and advice by offering on-line learning support for all participants through a dedicated website and archive. Learning groups, in which organisations of every shape, scale and artistic practice work in close partnership, are created to address the multiple challenges  contemporary arts management face in the 21st century.

In July 2007 A+M completed the delivery of ALITA 3, in partnership with TMPL Consulting and ACE (Arts Council England) London. Participants in ALITA 3 included organisations as diverse as: Emergency Exit Arts; Motiroti; Ridiculusmus; and Shobana Jeyasingh. ALITA SW, in partnership with TMPL and ArtsMatrix, is currently being delivered in the South West.
