Successive layering and engagement with my materials are important elements in my work, which I use to achieve a play of balance and surface texture. I am fascinated by the cultural history and social significance of botanical subjects and the changing colours and complex patterns found in the natural world. An intense journey often begins with many of my images carrying personal connotations and sometimes powerful memories are evoked, as specific periods in my life are unlocked. I’m not interested in a transitory moment; in all my paintings my aim is to capture my feelings and sense of awareness.

From Sept 2003 – Aug 2004 I became Artist in Residence at Winterbourne Botanic Garden, Birmingham University, after being awarded The Stanley Smith Bursary. I worked from a studio located in The Gardens often alongside a Botanist, and used the gardens extensive research material and local expertise to inform my work.

My work is held in corporate and private collections in Ireland, USA, Canada, Dubai, South Africa and Australia, and sold in galleries across the UK.

In 2009 I begin an intense period of research and development having been given ACE funding to work in collaboration with a mathematician, looking at mathematical patterns found in nature.

I studied Art at Birmingham University and currently work from a studio on The Canal Basin in Coventry.
