Deaffest 2008 opens new horizons to Deaf filmmakers

Deaffest, the UK’s only Deaf-led Film and Television Festival which celebrates the talents of Deaf filmmakers and media artists, took place at Light House in Wolverhampton last weekend from 28-30 November.

The tenth festival to be held in Wolverhampton since 1998, the event attracts films directed and produced by Deaf filmmakers from all around the world which are showcased to Deaf and hearing audiences.

This year’s festival also incorporated a conference - Opening Doors to New Channels - which looked at how Deaf filmmakers can successfully pitch for their own short or feature film and planning for the future of…

Talking Birds: Trevor Goose and his dark night of lights

The goose has left the city of Lancaster reeling with music, laughter, and mild horror, to start its greasy run at Warwick Arts Centre from tonight.

It’s festive fare for those tired of turkey; it’s a date for those who don’t need to impress their date anymore; it’s an office party outing, especially if you don’t work in an office.

Snow White

Hi ho, hi ho, it’s off to Stoke-on-Trent we go for The Regent Theatre’s spectacular family pantomime, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Following three critically acclaimed, record-breaking years with Mother Goose, Aladdin and Cinderella, we can officially announce that Jonathan Wilkes will be returning to star in his fourth Regent Theatre Panto!

This year Jonathan is joined by none other than star of screen and stage, Claire Sweeney! Claire is no stranger to The Regent, having starred in hit productions of Guys and Dolls and more recently, Shout! and we are delighted that Claire has decided to spend Christmas…

Group Exhibition ‘A Different View’

A Different View’ is an exhibition by four members of the Deaf Artist Network.The artists include Olivier Jamin, Sunny Chana, Iva Hay and Linda Bagnall who work in clay, print, paint and textiles.

It explores the broad topic of communication, ranging from the manipulation of form and pattern, to the iconic imagery of popular culture. 

The exhibition has been created in collaboration with the Cultural Centre, The Deaf Artist Network and Wolverhampton Arts and Museum Service.
