20 June 2007
CLOSED
Course Details
Running one-off workshops or series of classes for adult interest groups can provide professional artists with an additional income stream and also extend their creative practice. If you are thinking of using your artistic skills (whether singing, painting, dance, ceramics or any other artform) in this way, then this course will help you think through the issues and plan and prepare for future work.
Who is it for?
The course is for sole trader artists and small arts organisations considering running courses or workshops for adult leisure groups, or seeking work in this field.
Outline
Using a range of teaching methods, including presentations, real examples, discussion, group work and practical exercises, this course will take you through all the different aspects of work in this environment. The course will explore the issues involved: from finding work within the range of opportunities available; to an assessment of the skills required and managing the dynamics of adult groups.
It will cover:
- The adult leisure environment
- Opportunities and threats
- Working for others
- Going it alone
- Collaborating with others
- Pricing/fees
- Administration and logistics
- The skills required
- The nature of adult leisure groups - motivation, aspirations, group dynamics, who is in control?
- Designing materials and course/workshop content
At the end of the day, participants will have an action plan relating to their own work. They will be clear about what opportunities there are; what they want to offer; what resources they have and what they will need, and how they will market and manage their events.
