Everybody’s doing it, but why? And are they doing it right? These dynamic and practical workshops will show you simple steps to enrich your website and ensure that your potential customers/audience can find it easily. Spend the morning finding out how to cater for Google’s spiders and robots when they come calling so that they rank your site highly. Stay on for the afternoon and learn the best and most economical ways to set up your blog/podcast, what you need to consider when devising the content, and how you can maximise the use of your blog entries. All jargon explained in a friendly and hugely informative day.
Who is it for?
These two workshops are for anyone (sole trader or arts organisation) who is about to set up a website and anyone who already has a website which might need improving or developing.
Outline
Getting found in Google (morning)
Every organisation, large or small, old or new, is able to take advantage of the opportunities of ranking well in the search engines. If your organisation can’t be found in Google, then it just doesn’t exist for a large number of potential clients. In this half day workshop, Susan Hallam will explain the principles of search engine optimisation for small businesses:
- What are the characteristics of sites that rank well in the search engines
- What simple steps do you need to take to improve your rankings in Google
- Practical examples and reviews of local businesses’ websites
“It was such a good day and I learnt so much my brain hurt!”

Blogs and Podcasts (afternoon)
Your web marketing strategy is all about words. Getting information to your customers and prospects, promoting your organisation in the media, getting more visitors: it’s all about using carefully crafted and persuasive words. It’s just as important as search engine optimising, pay per click campaigns, and other advertising technologies.
This fast moving session is designed to give you tips and techniques for improving your organisation’s performance on the web. We will be looking at two relatively new technologies which you may not have used before.
This is a practical session, packed with ideas that you can implement straight away. How to create a blog or a podcast, what tools you need, tracking the benefits they bring, and the fundamentals of how to successfully use these technologies.
At the end of the day, you will understand how the technology can work for your business/organisation; you will know exactly what you need to do to improve/develop your website, and you will have a range of free or inexpensive tools to help you.
