June is a freelance Arts Manager and Consultant and a qualified, supervised and insured Life and Business Coach, who currently is an Executive Committee member of the Independent Dance Managers' Network, Development Consultant for Hofesh Shechter. Her consultancy, coaching and training clients currently include Robert Hylton, Menelva Harry, Laila Diallo, Jane Mason, C-Scape, Lisa May Thomas, f.a.b - The Detonators, Influx Dance Company, Sarah Fahie, Louise Katerega, IDMN, The Actors Centre, Dance South West, East London Dance, South East Dance. Previous clients include Dance North West, Swindon Dance, Dance City, the Association of Dance of the African Diaspora (ADAD), Akademi and The Place Artist Development. From the age of 4 to 23 June trained as a dancer in Bridport, Plymouth and London. In 1988 she was awarded a joint honours degree in Dance and History by Roehampton Institute of HE. After working as an Estate Agent for 8 months she went on to gain a diploma in Arts Administration. This and her voluntary work at Sadler’s Wells Theatre led to her first Arts Management job in 1989 at Adzido Pan African Dance Ensemble. In 1990 June moved on to work with Pan African Arts Management who managed Les Ballets Africains (national dance company of Guinea in West Africa), the Pan African Orchestra, Femi Kuti & other African artists.
In 1992, June set her business up as a freelance Arts Administrator and Consultant working with several individual artists, dance and theatre companies at small and middle scale. Her clients have included Double Edge Theatre Company, Half Moon Theatre, Akshaya Dance Theatre, Suraya Hilal Dance Theatre, Union Dance Company, Badejo Arts, Edwards & Watton, Duende Flamenco, Mashango, Bullies Ballerinas, State of Emergency Ltd (The Mission), Bedlam Dance Company and Sankalpam. From December 1997 to March 2000 June was part-time General Manager of City Ballet of London.
Today she is Development Consultant and Tour Coordinator for Niki McCretton and Hofesh Shechter and an Executive Member of the Independent Dance Managers’ Network. 2003 - 2006 she was a Creative Consultant for Dance South West. In addition, from 1989 to 2005 she was a Director of Kazzum - a childrens’ theatre company (formerly the Chair for seven years - 1989 onwards) and was a member of the standing committee of the Association of Dance of the African Diaspora (formerly the Co-ordinator for 3 years). June is also on the Board of Directors of Plymouth-based iDC (integrated dance company) and an Artistic Advisor for The Pegasus Theatre in Oxford.
In 2000 June was awarded a Business Excellence Model Diploma and a Certificate in Total Quality Management. In 2002 she gained a Performance Coaching Diploma and in 2003 a Certificate in Life Coaching. She has recently gained a Diploma in Life Coaching (2004).
June was commissioned by The Place Artist Development in 2000 to compile a Small-Scale Touring Directory and Surgery Toolkits. She also delivers surgeries for dance artists and managers (independently and as a guest of The Place Artist Development), as well as acting as a mentor for administrators and artists, historically via The Place Artist Development’s Feedback scheme and now with private clients.
As a result of her varied practical experience, June has often been invited to talk to students and conference delegates. Previous hosts of training and coaching projects include: Southern Arts; Swindon Dance; Dance North West; Roehampton Institute of Higher Education (Arts Administration Diploma Course); Warwick University (3rd Year Performing Arts students); London School of Contemporary Dance (3rd year Dance students - Deutsche Bank Competition); Kingston College (BTEC Performing Arts students), London Arts Board (Artists seminars), TS2K (Creative Media students), King Alfred’s College, Winchester (2nd & 3rd Year Performing Arts Students), Laban Centre (3rd Year students), DanceAfrika, Plymouth University, East London Dance, Dance North West, Dance City, South East Dance, The Actors Centre.
