Gwen Van Spijk (CUE)

Gwen initially worked in the commercial sector in the USA and UK, before moving into arts management. She was Administrative Director for Motionhouse Dance Theatre 1992 - 1997 after which she embarked on a career as an independent arts manager, consultant and trainer. In 2001 she established CUE, a project and production management company that serves as a conduit and platform for the realisation of adventurous new performance work. Artists that CUE works with and represents include: New Art Club, Nigel Charnock, bgroup and Frauke Requardt.

Consultancy, facilitation and training projects Gwen has recently undertaken include: recruitment of Director of Dance 4, organisational review and strategic plan facilitation for Moving East; Board Development for Essex Dance; facilitation of awaydays for Leicestershire and Rutland Dance Development Project; facilitation of retreats for Capture West Midlands [2005], Fracture [2006] and Fracture Review [2007]; Venue Needs and Options Analysis Consultancy for Essex Dance; evaluation of Birmingham Royal Ballet’s Breakthrough Project; introductory and advanced project management training for June Gamble, Arts & Media Training and Purple Monster [for the National Union of Students Management teams]; mentoring of independent artists through The Place Artists’ Development, Dance UK, Arts & Media Training, Herefordshire County Council; facilitation and mentoring for Derby Dance 3D White Space project for independent artists; Organisational Development consultancies for Anjali Dance Company.

The underpinning aim within Gwen’s practice is to work closely with artists and organisations to enable them to achieve their vision and she is committed to working with artists/organisations that break new ground within their genre whilst continuing to successfully engage audiences. Gwen has particular interests in the creative applications of emerging technologies and interdisciplinary/collaborative practice.

Gwen served as Chair of the Board of Stan’s Cafe Theatre for 5 years until 2005 and as Chair of the Board of Dance 4 for 5 years until 2006. She is currently Chair of IDMN [Independent Dance Managers Network].
